HFA Fall Seminar – A Wonderful Time Was Enjoyed By All

Hoover Financial AdvisorsNovember 9, 2015

I recently attended an extremely delightful program presented by Hoover Financial Advisors featuring Liz Ann Sonders, Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Strategist of Charles Schwab & Co. Why did I love it?  To paraphrase the familiar lines of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, let me count the ways.

Ms. Sonders’ background is beyond impressive. She is the most prominent speaker HFA has had, which is a perfect conclusion to its 10th anniversary. She is frequently called on for her analytical views of the nation’s financial climate.  She is a regular contributor to media programs such as:

  • CNBC Programs
  • FOX Business News
  • Bloomberg Television & Radio
  • CBS This Morning
  • ABC’s Good Morning America

The erudite woman’s youthful appearance belies years of successful experience. The audience was indeed fortunate to learn her thoughts on past, present and future financial conditions in America, China and Europe and their effects on the market.

The seminar, which focused on economic and market outlooks, was held at Penn State Great Valley Conference Center. It is an outstanding facility with excellent acoustics and seating accommodations. Everyone had an upfront view of Ms. Sonders no matter where they sat. Delicious snacks were available during registration. I must admit, I may have overindulged, but everything tasted so good.

The auditorium quickly filled up as almost 200 HFA guests eagerly filed in. And – yes – there was a desk for our food and notepads and pens so we could jot down key points of the address. The program opened with an update from Pete Hoover on the company’s Fall Funds for Food campaign to benefit Chester County Food Bank. He presented checks totaling $11,000 to the organization which is a consolidation of all client and vendors most generous contributions.  The HFA team is happy to announce that the $15,000 goal has now been met with donations received after the seminar! The Food Bank was extremely grateful! Pete also announced that HFA will begin a third physical expansion to their office space in January. Stay tuned for news. I know I’m excited about the progress made in just 10 years.

Ms. Sonders’ opening remarks were warm, nostalgic and marked with coincidence.  She and Pete both attended Henderson High School in West Chester. Kelly Hoover and the evening’s speaker both graduated from University of Delaware. There were friends in the audience and Ms. Sonders even noted that she was having dinner after the program with one of their daughters. It was exciting for her to make those connections!

Naturally, a very valuable seminar followed.  Ms. Sonders set the stage with a quote by Sir John Templeton (American-born British stock investor, businessman and philanthropist): Bull markets are born on pessimism, grow on skepticism, mature on optimism and die of euphoria. Subjects included diversification, market conditions, the volatility of 2015, U.S. and global economy, Federal Reserve activities and much more. She talked about consumer spending, typical recession results, investor sentiment, economic cycles, asset inflation and lifestyles of millennials, AKA echo boomers. She pointed out that this generation exceeds baby boomers by 10 million individuals. The exceptional speaker concluded by answering questions from guests.  All agreed the program was exceptional!

More yummy food followed at the dinner reception. Kudos to Meridith’s Catering for the delectable assortment of entrees and side dishes. Beef, chicken, pasta, veggies, chips, you name it, it was attractively arranged on buffet tables. Dessert, too, was a treat with plenty of choices including cookies, pastries, brownies and fruit.

I left pleased with the evening from beginning to end. It was indeed a coup to have Liz Ann Sonders share her wisdom and all the extra touches of HFA hospitality enhanced the experience. I know HFA will continue to have great seminars coming our way in 2016!
